North Canton – The North Canton Heritage Society has published its 2014 photographic calendar, with thirteen historic images of North Canton. The photographs are all part of the Society’s extensive photo collection. This year’s calendar is the fourth in the series published by the Society and the proceeds from sales serve as the Society’s primary fundraiser.
This year’s calendar is bigger than ever before – 13 ½ x 19”. The cover image shows masons building the iconic Hoover Company smokestack at the company’s powerhouse, a landmark that still dominates the city’s skyline. Other images include two from NoCaHi, the 1929 North Canton High School (later the Middle School), recently demolished, vintage cars, the city Square in the 1950s, and the original Zion Church on Pittsburg Rd. The present congregations of both Zion United Church of Christ and Zion Lutheran Church shared this structure until the 1880s, and both groups celebrate their 200th anniversaries in 2014.
The calendars, printed on heavy stock and spiral bound, sell for $15, and are available at the Society’s new location at 185 Ream Ave. NW, across from the rear of the North Canton Public Library. They are also available online via PayPal at giftshop with an additional $5 postage. Quantity discounts for orders over twelve copies are available.
