2018 is the Centennial Anniversary of the North Canton/New Berlin name change. Intense anti-German sentiment during World War I made the name “Berlin” an unpopular choice for a town. On December 3, 1917 the city filed a petition with 648 signatures to change the village’s name from New Berlin to North Canton, a change made official on January 30, 1918.
This moment in time connects the city of North Canton to both national and international history. To commemorate this 100 year anniversary, the theme of the North Canton Heritage Society’s annual calendar will be “Photos of New Berlin.” Twelve historic photos of New Berlin will be featured during the 12 calendar months of 2018. The photos are from our 3,000+ collection of historic photographs. Sales of our calendar help in the continued preservation of our entire collection.
We are offering two types of sponsorships for this year’s calendar. For $100, businesses or individuals can sponsor an entire month, which will include your business/organization’s name and information. A sponsorship of $50 will get the sponsor a business card size acknowledgment on our sponsor page.
The North Canton Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1972 to preserve, protect and share the history of the city of North Canton. It depends exclusively on memberships, grants, and fundraising activities like this one for its income. Your sponsorship donation is tax-deductible.
