North Canton Veterans Memorial: Army Staff Sergeant Christopher Cashell spoke at the Service of Remembrance at the North Canton Veterans Memorial of September 11, 2011, the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pa. This service, one of three local events held that day, included remarks, by North Canton residents Dennis and Marilyn Weaver, whose son Todd, age 30, died in the World Trade Center. The centerpiece of this memorial in Bitzer Park is the Hoover World War II bronze plaque honoring the 834 Hoover Company employees who served in the war, which originally hung at the company East Maple Street entrance. Other wars are represented by granite plaques. A sculpture of a World War II soldier created by local artist Don Lundstrom salutes the sacrifice of those who served their country in war. Commemorative bricks purchased by the public fill the patio leading to the monument.
